Organic Fresh Produce at   The Oaks

WHAT IS ORGANIC VEGETABLE PRODUCTION ?

In our case this means the planting of fruits/vegetables in rows with mechanised inter row cultivation, and hand weeding of the rows themselves. To date all production is dryland. Again this production is carried out on mineral rich, self mulching soils, and importantly no artifical fertilisers, weedicides, insecticides, or fungicides are used. Some blended mineral fertilisers are used

Our Rockmelon and Watermelon varieties are heritage types, and we have seedstocks of several varieties of each for specific markets. Rockmelons, Watermelons, and Pumpkins are summer growers. The melons are available from late January forward, and the Pumpkins are available in the winter

Seasons permitting we plant a small area to brown Onions in the winter. These are usually harvested in late December.
